What you will take away
- Separate counselling authority, seat pool, eligibility and fee before comparing options.
- PSG’s cited 2026–27 tables list fee amounts of ₹4.5 lakh for GQ, ₹15 lakh for MQ and ₹27 lakh for NRI.
- Madras Medical College’s AIQ/state routes are a separate example; do not assume every college offers every pool.
Start here if: You want to read exam and counselling records carefully, then apply the same checks to your own research.

A college name is not an application route.
Two students can research the same institution and read very different instructions. One may be looking at a government-quota seat and another at a management or NRI seat. A fee or rank without its pool can therefore mislead.
This story uses two specific Tamil Nadu examples. Madras Medical College illustrates AIQ and state routes in a government institution. PSG, Coimbatore illustrates government, management and NRI quota tables in the state prospectuses. These are not interchangeable institutions or pools.

Use the authority that controls the seat.
For the government-college example, the Tamil Nadu prospectus distinguishes seats surrendered to All India Quota from the state allocation. MCC and the state Selection Committee have different application and counselling records.
For the PSG examples here, the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee’s government and management prospectuses are the relevant documents. Management quota in a state self-financing institution should not automatically be treated as MCC deemed-university counselling.
The route cards deliberately do not provide a yes/no eligibility verdict. They identify which document to inspect. Nativity, category and NRI/minority documentation need the exact applicable clause and current amendments.
Compare a fee only after matching the seat pool.
In the cited 2026–27 PSG rows, the listed fee amounts differ across government, management and NRI quota. These are prospectus fee-table snapshots, not a quote for the total cost of the degree. Confirm the payment period and included charges in the applicable fee order.
Hostel, other permitted charges, deposits, duration, later fee orders and refund/discontinuation provisions need their own checks. Do not multiply a single tuition row and call it the final all-inclusive bill. The source tables are available below with page numbers.

Try it: repair the incomplete comparison.
Fictional shortlist: College A is written as “₹4.5 lakh” and College B as “₹15 lakh.” The first entry is a GQ fee row; the second is an MQ fee row. A student concludes A is always cheaper for anyone admitted. What is missing?
Reveal a fair comparison
Identify each institution’s exact pool, applicant eligibility, academic year and what the amount covers. Compare the pools the applicant could actually enter. Then separately list tuition, hostel, deposits and other applicable costs. The two bare numbers do not answer the same admissions question.
Make one row per route in your own shortlist.
For each programme, record: authority, exact institution and course, seat pool, eligibility document, fee source and date, counselling stage, and what you still need to verify. Keep two rows when a college has two relevant routes.
Open the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee and MCC UG counselling for current notices. This article’s dated examples do not establish current vacancies or deadlines.
Check the shortcut.
A college appears in a state management prospectus. Can you assume every applicant can select its management and NRI seats through the same eligibility route?
Check the documents
No. A shared authority or institution does not erase the separate pool conditions. Read the management, minority and NRI provisions relevant to the actual seat. A fee row alone does not establish eligibility.

Sources and method
Official source versions are frozen with SHA256 hashes. Counts retain their year, population and rank/seat pool. Derived summaries are labelled and reconciled; absent records remain unexplained rather than becoming invented outcomes. Original exercises are fictional. No names, roll numbers or candidate-level records are shipped in the reader. Rules and fees are dated source snapshots; check current amendments and the applicable authority before acting.

Frequently asked questions
Start with your question. Open an answer, then choose one study task to try.
Does every college have AIQ, state, management and NRI seats?
No. The relevant seat pools depend on the institution and governing rules. The two examples here are intentionally separate.
Is state management quota the same as a deemed-university seat?
No. Identify the institution and controlling counselling authority; the labels are not interchangeable.
Are the displayed fees total degree costs?
No. They are listed fee amounts in the cited 2026–27 PSG prospectus rows; confirm the payment period in the applicable fee order.
Does paying a higher fee remove eligibility conditions?
No. Pool-specific eligibility and documentary requirements still apply.
Can this explorer confirm my eligibility?
No. It identifies source documents and questions to check; it does not assess an individual applicant or current amendments.
