Exam-day preparation: a practical plan and when to seek support
Prepare exam documents, travel and a manageable practice routine, with guidance for parents and signs that a student needs more support.
About this revised guide
This guide replaces the earlier claims about an instant CBT reset and relief within a fixed number of minutes.

For a NEET, JEE or school examination, separate the tasks you can prepare from the worries you want to discuss with someone. The checklist below is a practical planning example. It does not diagnose anxiety or promise a particular result.
Prepare the practical details
- Read the current admit card and official instructions. Write down the centre, reporting time, documents and permitted items.
- Agree on travel and a contact plan with a parent or guardian. Keep the instructions somewhere both of you can find them.
- Choose a small practice task before the exam, such as reading instructions carefully and completing a familiar question set. Review what you can change next time.
Rehearse the format that applies to your examination. A computer-based practice screen and a paper answer sheet require different actions. Check the official marking scheme before deciding how to handle a question you cannot answer.
During and after a paper
If you lose your place, return to the current question and identify the next concrete action: read the units, underline a condition or check the answer-sheet number. Follow the invigilatorโs instructions when you need assistance. A routine can organise a task without making uncomfortable feelings disappear.
After the paper, note any practical issue you want to resolve before the next one. You do not have to compare every answer immediately. Choose when to discuss the paper with someone you trust.
How parents can help
NHS guidance recommends listening, helping with a realistic revision routine and avoiding additional pressure. Ask what support would be useful: a quieter place, help checking documents or time to talk. Keep ordinary meals, breaks and sleep in the family plan rather than replacing them with an all-night revision session.
When to seek more support
If anxiety or low mood is severe, continues or interferes with everyday life, seek help from a qualified health professional. A trusted adult or school counsellor can help a student access support. Persistent difficulties should not be treated as a failure to follow a study routine.
