JEE PHYSICS MCQ: THERMAL PROPERTIES OF MATTER

1 Medium
1 of 1
Application +4 | -1
A metal block of density 6000 kg m−36000 \mathrm{~kg} \mathrm{~m}^{-3} and mass 1⋅2 kg1 \cdot 2 \mathrm{~kg} is suspended through a spring of spring constant 200 N m−1200 \mathrm{~N} \mathrm{~m}^{-1}. The spring-block system is dipped in water kept in a vessel. The water has a mass of 260 g260 \mathrm{~g} and the block is at a height 40 cm40 \mathrm{~cm} above the bottom of the vessel. If the support to the spring is broken, what will be the rise in the temperature of the water. Specific heat capacity of the block is 250 J kg−1 K−1250 \mathrm{~J} \mathrm{~kg}^{-1} \mathrm{~K}^{-1} and that of water is 4200 J kg−1 K−14200 \mathrm{~J} \mathrm{~kg}^{-1} \mathrm{~K}^{-1}. Heat capacities of the vessel and the spring are negligible.

Correct option: B
3×10−30C3 \times 10^{-30} \mathrm{C}
Option B (3×10−30C3 \times 10^{-30} \mathrm{C}) is correct because it is the temperature rise calculated from the potential energy conversion and heat transfer to the water and block.
