NEET 2026 syllabus and pattern: build a chapter study plan

Check the official NEET 2026 pattern and syllabus, then build a chapter plan using prerequisites, practice errors and review dates.

Published 2/10/2025 Β· Updated 20/10/2026

What the official 2026 pattern says

The NTA NEET UG 2026 bulletin specifies 180 compulsory questions in 180 minutes: 45 Physics, 45 Chemistry and 90 Biology, for 720 marks. The standard marking is +4 for a correct answer, βˆ’1 for an incorrect answer and zero for an unanswered question. Eligible candidates should also check the bulletin’s provisions for examination accommodations.

The old optional Section B format is not the 2026 pattern. This is a guide to the documented 2026 scheme; students preparing for a later year should use that year’s bulletin and subsequent NTA notices.

Turn the syllabus into a working checklist

Use the official NMC syllabus as the boundary of your plan. A textbook chapter name and a syllabus unit may not match exactly, so record the listed subtopics as well as the chapter heading. Do not assume that finishing a chapter summary covers every required topic.

RecordExample of what to write
Syllabus topicThe unit and exact subtopic you intend to revise
Current evidenceA recent question, diagram or explanation you could not complete
Next taskRead the relevant section, work examples, then attempt a short set
Review noteThe mistake, corrected reasoning and a date to try again

Choose an order without predicting the paper

Begin with a missing prerequisite or a repeated error. Keep a separate list of untouched syllabus topics so that repeated practice in a comfortable chapter does not hide a coverage gap. A past paper can reveal mistakes in your method; it cannot promise the questions in a future paper. This page provides no chapter-weightage forecast.

At a weekly review, a student and parent can compare the planned tasks with completed work and agree on the next manageable steps. Discuss specific questions and available time instead of setting an unsupported score promise.

Choose a NEET subject and chapter for practice.
