JEE PHYSICS MCQ: MAGNETIC EFFECT OF CURRENT

1 Medium
1 of 1
Application +4 | -1
A narrow vertical rectangular coil is suspended from the middle of its upper side with its plane parallel to a uniform horizontal magnetic field of 0.02 T0.02 \mathrm{~T}. The coil has 10 turns and the lengths of its vertical and horizontal sides are 0.1 m0.1\,m and 0.05 m0.05\,m respectively. Calculate the torque on the coil when a current of 5 A5 \mathrm{~A} is passed into it. What would be the new value of the torque if the plane of the vertical coil was initially at 60∘60^{\circ} to the magnetic field and a current of 5 A5 \mathrm{~A} was passed into the coil.
View answer and explanation
Correct option: A
5×10−3 Nm  &  2.5×10−3 Nm5 \times 10^{-3}\,\mathrm{Nm}\,\,\&\,\,2.5 \times 10^{-3}\,\mathrm{Nm}
Option A (5×10−3 Nm  &  2.5×10−3 Nm5 \times 10^{-3}\,\mathrm{Nm}\,\,\&\,\,2.5 \times 10^{-3}\,\mathrm{Nm}) is correct because it correctly calculates the torque using the formula τ=BINA\tau = BINA and τ=BINAcos⁡θ\tau = BINA \cos \theta.
