JEE Main 2026 chapter priorities: a syllabus-based plan

Use the official JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 pattern, syllabus and your practice record to plan revision without invented chapter weightages.

Published 14/10/2025 · Updated 20/10/2026

Start with the paper you are preparing for

The NTA JEE Main 2026 bulletin lists 75 questions and 300 marks for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.). Each of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry has 20 multiple-choice and five numerical-value questions. The standard duration is three hours; check the separate accommodation provisions where applicable. Paper 2 has a different structure.

For 2026 Paper 1, incorrect answers attract negative marking in both sections. Numerical-value answers must follow the bulletin’s integer-entry instructions. Practising only MCQs does not rehearse every response format in this paper.

Choose the next chapter from evidence

Keep the official syllabus beside your practice record. Rather than ranking ten chapters as universally “most important”, use these three checks:

  1. Prerequisite: Is a missing idea preventing work in another topic? For example, weak algebra can interrupt a calculus solution even when the calculus step is understood.
  2. Repeated error: Are you repeatedly choosing the wrong model, missing a condition or making the same calculation mistake?
  3. Coverage: Which listed topics have not yet received a first pass? Keep these visible alongside the chapters you are revising.

Use a repeatable practice session

Write one task before starting: explain a concept, solve a set, or review a past-paper section. Show the working, check the answer and classify each error. Then retry a similar question without copying the solution. Record what still needs help rather than simply counting completed questions.

Use the official 2026 paper archive to practise a dated paper. If comparing chapter counts across papers, identify the session, shift, sample size and classification method. Such counts describe that sample; they do not guarantee another paper’s content.

Parents can help by checking whether the weekly plan includes all three subjects and enough time to review mistakes. A practical plan changes with the student’s evidence; it does not need a promised percentile.

About this revision

Revised to remove chapter percentages that had no documented paper sample or calculation method.

Sources checked on 20 October 2026. Dated facts describe the named documents; practical checklists are editorial suggestions. For a later examination or admission cycle, use that cycle’s official documents.
